The Báb is one of the 3-central figures in the Bahá’í Faith, a monotheistic religion that originated in the mid-19th century in Persia (now Iran). The Báb, whose name means “Gate” in Arabic, proclaimed himself as the herald and forerunner of a new religious dispensation and claimed to be the fulfillment of prophecies from various religious traditions. His teachings emphasized the imminent arrival of a greater Manifestation of God, Bahá’u’lláh.
The Bábís were the followers of the Báb, who faced persecution and martyrdom for their beliefs. Their movement eventually evolved into the Bahá’í Faith after Bahá’u’lláh’s public declaration of his mission.
